Everesting. It’s a thing now, as we say. And Selene is a bit obsessed with the idea of doing one. Then she ran across a group that went to Everest Everest. How meta. How quintessential. How unbeatable.

Patrick is back from Interbike and is afraid grandma might not be coming home from the hospital. She’s ornery and won’t take her meds. The misses for the show this year seem to outnumber the successes. And he’s not happy to report on them.

I believe the Everest Challenge stage race is alive and well, though it’s been several years since I’ve raced it. It was a very well-run event and I bet, a lot more enjoyable than “everesting”because there is time to look around and enjoy the scenery. The big turnoff was the amount of littering by the participants.

    1. Selene

Ugh. Why do people toss their trash during events??? It makes me insane…. And good to hear that. I might try that Everest first!

Really enjoyed this episode, as I do every week. As Selene has mentioned it a couple of times now, you might be both interested in a recent episode of the Sigma Nutrition podcast that discusses the science behind gastrointestinal symptoms in endurance sports. They mention lab tests involving high intake of maltodextrin when cycling that seem to tally with Selene’s experiences with the Maurten and Beta Fuel drinks. Here’s the link:
