The Paceline Podcast 181

This week Selene takes on a bevvy of listener questions that were intriguing, but not quite meaty enough to carry a whole segment. She covers artificial joints, diabetes, gravel events and more.

Patrick and some board members from the California Mountain Biking Coalition got to join mountain bike legend Mark Weir for an eMTB ride on a private ranch in Marin County where Weir and friends have been building trails for years. It was a fresh opportunity to see some of the strengths and weaknesses of eMTBs as well as hear Weir talk about just why he is such a convert.

Wonder if Selene has any advice for swimming as off-season cross-training. I’ve recently gotten back in the pool and am really enjoying it, but not sure what kinds of sets to do to best work with my cycling beyond just swim some laps and then swim some more laps.

I love swimming! I break it up. Do some intervals. Do some technique work with fins and boards. If you google around for swim workouts you can find some fun stuff.

Nice episode, as ever. Not long ago, everyone was raving about Gore Shakedry jackets and saying that for once they do actually keep you dry. A couple of companies are even doing lined versions now (Rapha does one). Would these be the perfect solution for cold and wet weather? Or are you still losing too much breatheability and comfort compared to something like a Perfetto? (Leaving aside the fact that for the same price as a Shakedry jacket you could probably pick up a couple of Perfettos…)

I love my shakedry jacket! I have the non lined one so I can use it in all temps. I have actually not worn a Perfetto (feel like the only one at this point), so I’ll let Patrick field that.
