Redwood Empire Pedalcast #11

Redwood Empire Pedalcast #11

For the most part, Northern California seems to have skipped spring and gone straight to summer. May is national Bike to Work Month. The San Francisco Bike Coalition as well as the Sonoma County Bike Coalition and other bike coalitions are all sponsoring Bike to Work Day on May 11.

The Giro d’Italia starts in short order and Bay Area resident Peter Stetina will be racing there for Trek-Segafredo. We’ll be following his progress with the help of Steephill.tv. We also discuss the briefly lived proposal to have a descending classification and some of the implications of that, including Speedplay founder Richard Bryne’s pro cyclist clinics.

Sonoma County Regional Parks has a new director, Bert Whitaker, who initially joined the organization as a lifeguard back in 1995. Word is he’s an active mountain biker and is a more sympathetic ear to the needs and desires of cyclists.

The Redwood Empire Pedalcast is sponsored by Bike Monkey, and the Trail House.
