Redwood Empire Pedalcast #1

Redwood Empire Pedalcast #1

Welcome to a new podcast we are launching, called the Redwood Empire Pedalcast. The Pedalcast is a regional podcast that focuses on riding in Northern California. We figured that the area is rich enough and diverse enough in riding terrain, events, companies and population that it deserves its own podcast.

We’re defining our territory as from the coast inland to Sacramento and from as far south as Monterey to as far north as … well we were going to say Fort Bragg, but practically speaking, we’ll be excited to talk about anything up to the Oregon border.

In this episode we introduce ourselves, talk about the upcoming opener for the Grasshopper Adventure Series, Old Caz. We talk a bit about our respective histories in Northern California and our love for the terrain in the Redwood Empire.

Nick Nesbitt, the chairman of REMBA, the Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance, gives us a little report from the mountain bike advocacy world.

Our final segment is a look at the upcoming calendar with events like the Grasshopper Series, the Chico Stage Race, the NorCal League’s beginner clinics and a terrific gravel event called the Rock Cobbler.

The Redwood Empire Pedalcast is sponsored by Bike Monkey, Trail House and Trek Store Santa Rosa.

Is this going to be part of The Paceline or stand alone? I ask because when I click on the iTunes link above I’m routed to the Paceline. Either is fine with me. Just wondering.

This is a separate, stand-alone podcast. We’re feeding it into the Paceline for now to help get the word out. I won’t always appear there, but this will help us jump start its audience.

I would love to hear you guys talk about mountain biking around Mendocino. That is high on my list for this year but I hear it is a little tricky without some inside information. Love the podcasts though!

It’s very much on the list. Jake has insider knowledge. I plan to use this as an excuse to learn.

This ride may of be of interest to your listeners. Tour de Placer Roubaix. It starts at Victory Velo in Auburn and heads up towards Colfax & Foresthill with crossings of the north & middle fork of the American River. It is a benefit to the local HS mountain bike team. It will be a mix of pavement, dirt roads and single track. Yankee Jim’s road is really beautiful and challenging and the gateway to lots of good stuff. The ride will likely have +/- 6000′ of climbing. There are several bail out options.
